Vivo T2 Pro 5G confirmed to feature Dimensity 7200 SoC ahead of Sep 22 Indian launch

Vivo is set to launch the T2 Pro 5G smartphone on September 22 in India. The smartphone will be available exclusively on Flipkart. That being said, the brand has now officially confirmed the chipset inside the T2 Pro 5G. Vivo has officially confirmed that the T2 Pro 5G will come with a Dimensity 7200 5G processor. A previous Geekbench 6 listing of the device has revealed that it scores 1,161 and 2,625 points in single-core and multi-core tests. Reports say that the smartphone scored 6,00,000 points in the AnTuTu benchmark test. For those unaware, the Dimensity 7200 is a fairly new chip from MediaTek’s camp based on TSMC’s 2nd Gen 4nm process. Oppo recently launched the A2 Pro smartphone in China with the same Diemsnity 7200 chipset. Vivo T2 Pro 5G specs The Vivo T2 Pro 5G is anticipated to feature a 3D curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering an ultra-slim design in flashy gold. Its curved edges enhance grip and comfort. On the back, there’s an aura light encircling the camera module, which could be a unique selling point. Speculations suggest a dual-rear camera setup with a 64MP primary sensor, while details about the secondary sensor are yet to be confirmed. The MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC is said to be coupled with options for 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. A 4600 mAh battery with 66W fast charging support is expected. The smartphone is rumored to share similar specifications with the iQOO Z7 Pro 5G.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro reportedly boasts up to 24% faster 5G speeds

iPhones have been compatible with 5G since the iPhone 12 series was released in 2020. Since then, Apple has been steadily improving the iPhone’s 5G performance. Now, it’s been reported that the iPhone 15 Pro’s 5G modem chip is up to 24% faster than the previous generation. This report comes from SpeedSmart, an internet speed measurement tool. SpeedSmart tested the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max’s 5G communication speeds on major American carriers AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. The report reveals iPhone 15 Pro had faster 5G communication speeds on all three carriers, with download speeds improving significantly. Among all, Verizon’s network experienced the most significant improvement, with the iPhone 14 Pro averaging 195.83Mbps download speed and the iPhone 15 Pro reaching an average of 243.06Mbps. This is an improvement of 24% in download speed.  On T-Mobile, the iPhone 15 Pro demonstrated 22% improvement with the fastest average 5G download speeds at 300.92Mbps. And on AT&T the download speeds are  14.6% faster averaging at 204.34Mbps. That said, upload speeds saw little change across all three major carriers. The improved 5G performance is due to an upgraded modem in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, as suggested by the SpeedSmart. Although Apple has not officially disclosed the modem in these devices, SpeedSmart suggests that the Pro models utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X70 modem, which offers three main advantages: With these benefits in tow, SpeedSmart’s tests show that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max offer up to 24% faster 5G speeds than the iPhone 14 Pro lineup. While there are rumors of Apple developing its own in-house 5G modems, the company has extended its modem supply agreement with Qualcomm until 2026. This means that Apple may not introduce its own modem technology until a few more generations of iPhones.

iPhone 16 may feature virtual buttons and high refresh rates across the entire lineup

Even before the dust settles on the iPhone 15 series launch, there are already rumors about the upcoming iPhone 16. This new report comes from popular tipster Digital Chat Station who hints at some exciting features for the next generation. Anticipated Features of iPhone 16 The iPhone 16 series is rumored to replace physical buttons with virtual solid-state buttons, a feature that has been speculated before. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted a similar feature for the iPhone 15 Pro models. Initially, there were expectations that the iPhone 15 Pro models would employ two Taptic Engines to simulate button presses without physical movement, but Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo later reversed this prediction, suggesting the iPhone 15 Pro models would retain physical buttons. However, the ongoing consideration of virtual buttons by Apple suggests they might be introduced in the iPhone 16 series. Apple is rumored to be considering upgrading the screen refresh rates for its standard iPhone models, which have historically featured a 60Hz refresh rate in models like the 13, 14, and 15 series. The upcoming iPhone 16 might break this trend, potentially featuring refresh rates of either 90Hz or 120Hz. Such an upgrade would be a significant leap for the standard models, bringing smoother visuals and better overall display performance. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro series might see a camera upgrade. The speculation points towards a 48MP stacked super-large main camera sensor and a 5X periscope telephoto lens. The Dynamic Island and the overall design of the device are expected to remain unchanged. The upcoming series is also expected to feature Wi-Fi 7.

iPhone 15 Pro Max Shipments Delayed Globally Due To Strong Demand

Apple launched the iPhone 15 series last week. The entire lineup comprising of the standard, plus, pro, and pro max variants are up for pre-orders in many countries around the world. Apple will start shipping the pre-booked units from September 22. Both the non-pro and pro models pack significant upgrades compared to their predecessors. It seems that the iPhone 15 series has received a great response from customers. However, this has resulted in an unfortunate development. The high demand has led to delayed shipments of orders.  iPhone 15 series pre-order shipments delayed Apple started taking the pre-orders for the iPhone 15 series just yesterday. Within a short span, the high demand for the latest-generation flagship phones has led to many buyers reporting a delay in the shipment of their orders. The estimated shipment dates have slipped to as far as mid-November as per Apple’s website for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Mark Gurman reports that the delivery times are increasingly getting delayed for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It is delayed by up to 8 weeks in India, 6-7 weeks in China and Canada, and 7-8 weeks in the UK. The delayed orders are applicable for both home and in-store pickup deliveries. Apart from the Pro models, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are also getting delayed by up to 2 weeks in some markets.  Apple’s Pro iPhone variants are exclusively manufactured in China. Hence, it does not have any other avenue to ramp up production. This could also lead to a further delay if the demand for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max continues to surge. Additionally, the latest offering’s titanium frame and A17 Pro based on a 3nm process is already challenging to manufacture. The regular non-pro iPhone models are made in India and Vietnam too, hence mitigating their supply issues.

Foxconn offers higher wages for Huawei workers in Shenzhen compared to iPhone production

In a move that underscores the shifting dynamics of the global tech manufacturing industry, Foxconn Technology Group, a key supplier for Apple, is offering higher wages to workers involved in making Huawei Technologies’ handsets at its production unit in Shenzhen, Southern China, compared to those working on Apple’s iPhones. The development has been revealed through recruitment posts and information provided by labor agencies. At Foxconn’s FIH unit, which specializes in manufacturing Huawei smartphones and operates under the umbrella of Foxconn International Holdings, new workers at the factory in Shenzhen’s Longhua district are being offered an hourly wage of 26 yuan (approximately $3.60). This rate is notably higher than the hourly wage of 21 yuan offered to workers at Foxconn’s integrated Digital Product Business Group (iDPBG), responsible for iPhone production. The FIH unit has increasingly become a vital player in the manufacturing ecosystem of Huawei and other smartphone companies, predominantly focusing on Huawei’s production requirements. Workers recruited by the FIH unit are assigned to different teams based on current demand, with a significant likelihood of being involved in the production of Huawei handsets. This move by Foxconn comes in the midst of fierce production competition between Apple and Huawei, both of whom have recently launched new 5G smartphones in the world’s largest smartphone market, China. With the global push for 5G technology and increased demand for compatible smartphones, both tech giants are racing to capture a larger share of this lucrative market. The wage differentials between Foxconn’s Huawei and iPhone production units highlight a broader trend in the industry. Foxconn has been known for its sizable workforce and production facilities in China, particularly in cities like Zhengzhou and Taiyuan. However, changes in market demand, geopolitical tensions, and evolving supply chain strategies have led to shifts in wage structures. In the past, Foxconn employees could earn substantial bonuses and higher monthly incomes, especially during peak production seasons. However, according to an internal source at Foxconn’s labor service supply company, this year’s bonuses may increase by only around 1,000 yuan (approximately $137) due to reduced orders and a lesser need for workers. It’s worth noting that Apple has been actively diversifying its supply chain to reduce dependence on a single manufacturer and mitigate risks associated with geopolitical tensions. This diversification has led to a reevaluation of wage structures at Foxconn, which remains a vital partner for Apple but is also expanding its work for other prominent tech companies like Huawei. Foxconn’s decision to offer higher wages to workers manufacturing Huawei handsets compared to iPhones highlights the competitive landscape of the tech manufacturing industry and the evolving dynamics of supply chains in response to market demands and geopolitical considerations. As Apple and Huawei continue their battle for dominance in the 5G smartphone market, such wage differentials may have significant implications for the workforce and the broader industry.
